How did the U.S. go wrong on Huawei?
In terms of the US, killing Huawei is not wrong from the stand point of maintaining hegemony.
Huawei is big threat to the US not in national security, but in technology competition.
Huawei leads the US in 5G and AI technology, and that is just the beginning. Within a decade, this unicorn will be inevitable affecting the technology status of the US.
The main reasons why Trump wants Huawei dead:
1. AI
Huawei invested in AI development
with leading achievement. AI is future, potential. Currently, Huawei is leading the world in AI. It will be a monster within few years time. No other American companies, nor EU companies can compete. It is a Chinese company.
2. Communication Technology
Huawei is leading the world in 5G communication technology. It has already engaged in 6G development.
3. HarmonyOS eco-system
HarmonyOS is a universal OS which can be used in any electronic devices. Cross devices data exchange and compatibility become extremely easy.
4. Microchips
Huawei has their own intellectual property microchips, Ai chips etc. In near future, Huawei aim to localize microchip manufacturing to avoid being contained by supply chain.
5. Automotive Industry
This is the fatal reason. Automotive industry is one of the largest industry in America. Huawei has started automotive manufacturing projects with GAC Beijing. Financial Times has reported that “Huawei has revealed a new tech front for the Trump administration to be concerned about. While it is best known for its leadership in 5G and telecoms networks, reveals it is well advanced with plans to launch self-driving vehicles as early as 2021. The Chinese company is providing the AI backbone in several co-operative ventures including ones with Germany’s Audi and the Chinese manufacturers GAC Group, Beijing New Energy Automobile and Changan Automobile.”

In fact, the oppression by the US was already been predicted by Huawei decade ago. Few spare tyre plans have been undergoing far ahead of the US sanctions, eg self developed microchip, operating system, etc.
With recent oppression by the US, Huawei did not felt but growing much stronger. America turned Huawei from a giant customer benefits the US tech companies, into a strong rival of them.
Huawei can survive and grow without the US
Huawei wants to purchase parts from American parts. It is Trump to ban the sale. This won’t kill Huawei as Trump expected, but forced Huawei to become stronger, establishing its own supply chain. Trump turned an American customer into American competitor, and it is a strong one.
In latest Mate30 flagship smartphone, there isn’t any American parts found. This shocked many, even Trump would never imagine Huawei can continue release advanced model without using any American parts that fast.
The reliance on the US supply chain thus successfully be eliminated.
Will this be good news for Qualcomm, Broadcom etc. American tech companies?
Of course, Trump wants Huawei dead for reasons far more just for empty claim of national security etc. nonsense reasons.
Huawei is a company which has no competitors from the US at all. What’s more, the ambition of Huawei in AI vehicles will become great threat to the US biggest manufacturing section, automotive manufacturing. This is the fatal reason.
The day when Huawei releases AI driven vehicles with information sharing linking on cross devices HarmonyOS, Huawei would have led the US automotive industry by far, killing American automotive industry, when there will be absolutely no competitor from America to compete with Huawei.
